Looks like Leo Lewis was a triple medal winner in the NYC Metro MES tournament! Pictured with Mayako and Scott from Briarcliff Middle school.

Parent Brooke Silber sent this in, and told us about these awesome kids:

“I was wondering how to give a shout out to Mayako and Scott from Briarcliff Middle School. When we started cleaning the chairs and tables they both pitched in to help move and stack the furniture. No one asked them they just pleasantly started helping us, chatting with DeWitt and crew. That worth more than any medal - which they both got in the science bee.”

Aw, that awesome spirit and helpfulness is what doing quiz bowl amazing. The kids are often so kind, to each other and to the moderators, and it’s refreshing to see in a world that can often be less than kind.
Thank you Brooke, to @primorisacademy for hosting, and to all the teams and players to made it happen!

Thanks to Brooke Silber for sending it in!
So I've been asking our team as well as players and family members of the players who they admire most of female figures in history......

One that keeps popping up is Eleanor Roosevelt! I think two thirds of those asked so far have had them on their list of people.

What we want to know from you.....who is a woman who you think influences the course of history a lot?

Others named thus far have included Joan of Arc, Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, Shirley Chisholm, and Dorothea Lange. We'll cover all of them this month, of course, but we want to hear from you!

We have some superstar students who have been sending in what inspired them to get into history! Here's what VJV competitor from IHO Rome, medal winner in Historical Simulation, Milana Carse had to say!
“Just talking to my parents and grandparents about their lives and the historical events that they found interesting sparked my interest in history because I realized that there was so much that had happened before I ever existed. Movies like Anastasia, even if they weren’t historically accurate, made me want to know more. It was presented to me like a story, instead of a series of dry facts.”

Milana, your love of history shows in your excellent skills in the simulation and in your competition play. Thank you for sharing with us your story! And we hope to see you on the podium again!

More stories of what go our players and families into history from one of last year's trifecta winners, Priyamvada Banerjee!

"my jumping off point to get into history was joan of arc. it might sound cliché but as a 5 year old, she sounded like the coolest person ever to me, and she became a role model to me. her determination and dedication to her country was unmatched in my eyes.

as my reading comprehension developed, i began to get incredibly interested with indian history. connecting with my roots made me feel a new appreciation for the rich history that my nationality holds. going back to india was a treat to me, getting immersed within all of the historical sites and my grandmother always willing to teach me, it really heightened my appreciation for it.

as an eighth grader now, of course, my horizons have expanded in terms of my historical role models. however, those seemingly small beginnings of history have set off something inside me, fueling that passion i still have to this day."

Priyamvada, it has been so awesome seeing you play and improve your game, and shine in Rome, we are so proud you play for us!
