The National History Bee and Bowl is pleased to announce that its 2018 Hudson Valley History Bee and Bowl Championships will be held at Thayer Hall at the United States Military Academy at West Point in West Point, NY on April 7, 2018. This tournament will be held on our A Set of questions. It does not require prior qualification, and is open to all teams and students, including from outside the Hudson Valley region. For further details and questions, please contact the Tournament Coordinator, Michael Borecki, at michael@historybowl.com. Thanks, and we hope that you and your team will be able to join us at West Point!

This tournament will also include a dedicated Middle School division! If you have students in the 8th Grade or below who wish to participate in the Bee and/or the Bowl at this tournament, please feel free to register them as Middle Schoolers.

Note: During the lunch break, we will offer the National Qualifying Exams for the US Geography Olympiad / International Geography Bee (one exam serves to qualify students for the National Championships of both competitions) and the US History Bee. Both exams cost $10 and can be signed up for on the day of the tournament; pre-registration is not required. Students planning on taking one exam are recommended not to leave during the lunch break (they can bring a lunch or have a teammate get lunch for them). Students planning on taking both exams should definitely plan on staying at the school for lunch.

Please also note the following special guidelines for this tournament given its significant location:

  • Any person not a citizen of the United States needs to be escorted on post by an academy escort at the gate. This can be arranged, but must be made known to the Tournament Coordinator in advance.
  • All adults (18 and over) entering the post must have a valid U.S. issued i.d.
  • No food is allowed in meeting spaces. Pizzas and snacks however are easily available on post.
  • Buses are allowed but do need to check in at the Visitor’s Center (just outside the Academy) with roster of all who are being transported. These rosters must be submitted a week in advance and include everyone attending with a team (including any parents, family members, etc.)
