The National History Bee and Bowl is pleased to announce that its 2018 Kentucky History Bee and Bowl State Championships will be held at Woodford County High School in Versailles, KY on Saturday, March 31. This tournament will be held on our A Set of questions. It does not require prior qualification, and is open to all teams and students, including from outside Kentcuky, as long as they have not yet played A Set. For further information, please contact the Tournament Coordinator, Jason Russell, at jason@historybowl.com. Thanks, and we look forward to welcoming you and your team to Woodford County!

Note 1: Any team that will be competing at this tournament is eligible to apply for a wild card bid to our 2018 National History Bowl National Championships on April 28-29, as this will be the only tournament in the immediate area this year (which is taking place just 4 weeks in advance of Nationals) and two earlier tournaments in Kentucky were snowed out. Wild card bids are not granted automatically, but teams that can show that they have a solid chance of posting a 3-2 record at this tournament will have their bids granted. Any team interested in this option should email director@historybowl.comwith a list of their most recent all-subject quiz bowl tournament results, any results from NHBB competitions in the past two years, and any other supporting information. For individual events, students must still qualify, either at the tournament on March 31, or by doing exams with a school proctor for the US History Bee and the US Geography Olympiad / International Geography Bee. Note that if your wild card bid is granted, you still must compete at this tournament in order for the bid to be eligible (i.e. the bid is still good even if you go 2-3 or worse in your matches, but not if you avoid the tournament altogether).

Note 2: During the lunch break, we will offer the National Qualifying Exams for the US Geography Olympiad / International Geography Bee (one exam serves to qualify students for the National Championships of both competitions) and the US History Bee. Both exams cost $10 and can be signed up for on the day of the tournament; pre-registration is not required. Students planning on taking one exam are recommended not to leave during the lunch break (they can bring a lunch or have a teammate get lunch for them). Students planning on taking both exams should definitely plan on staying at the school for lunch.

This tournament will also include a dedicated Middle School division! If you have students in the 8th Grade or below who wish to participate in the Bee and/or the Bowl at this tournament, please feel free to register them as Middle Schoolers.
