New Jersey – State Championships

Congratulations to St. Joseph High School of Metuchen, NJ and to The Charter School of Wilmington for being the respective Varsity and Junior Varsity winners of the New Jersey State History Bowl Championships! 44 teams (38 Varsity, 6 JV) contested the tournament, which was held at Princeton University on February 23. Lots of great matches were played throughout the day; in the Varsity final, St. Joe’s won 320-270 over a very strong High Tech team. Both teams swept their 3rd quarter rounds and there were many momentum swings throughout the game before St. Joe’s clinched it late in the 4th quarter. TriBeCa and Alec Vulfson of Irvington playing solo were the other semifinalists. In the JV, Charter A put down a highly impressive performance and looks set to go deep at JV Nationals. North Babylon topped the other 4 JV teams to reach the finals.
A big thank you to Princeton University’s Quizbowl team for helping to coordinate the arrangements and provide volunteers for the tournament. Thanks also to our NY/NJ volunteer crew for all their help in staffing our second largest tournament of the year so far. We hope to see all who qualified at our National Championships in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA on April 26-28, and all teams who are still eligible to compete at our Pennsylvania State Championships in Elizabethtown, PA on Saturday, March 16!
