Guam

Congratulations to Harvest Christian Varsity and JV, and to Bishop Baumgartner Memorial School’s A Team in the middle school division; the 2013 Guam History Bowl champions! Our second tournament ever on Guam was held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Father Duenas Memorial School in Chalan Pago, and saw 16 teams compete; up from last year’s 10. The tournament saw many close matches, especially between the top teams from Father Duenas and Harvest Christian in the high school rounds. In the middle school division, Untalan A came in second place to a very impressive Bishop Baumgartner Middle School team led by Middle School History Bee champion Lenny Calvo. BBMS A amassed over 1800 prelim points; by far the highest total of any team in the competition. Father Duenas’s Manznailla A & B teams led throughout the prelims in the Varsity and JV respectively, though Harvest Christian came back to win in the finals matches; both teams were very evenly matched and the competition could easily have gone either way.
Thanks so much to Mrs. Jovie Manzanilla and Father Duenas Memorial School for hosting, and to Natalie Calvo for her outreach efforts to help our tournament! We hope to see the teams who qualified at our National Championships (April 26-28 for high school, May 18-19 for middle school) in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA. Thanks for coming and for your support of our tournament!
