20 teams came to Oakville High School for the 2013 Missouri History Bowl on January 26, 2013. 14 teams played in the Varsity division while 3 played in each of the Junior Varsity and the Middle School division. The Varsity division would play five preliminary rounds while the other divisions would play six rounds.
After the five rounds of Varsity play, two teams emerged undefeated: Ladue A and Clayton A. Three others had one loss — Oakville A, Clayton B, and Rosati-Kain A — while two more qualified for nationals with records of 3-2. Those two teams were Lebanon and Oakville B. Webster Groves A completed the slate of quarterfinalists. The quarterfinals were held at the same time as the last round of the middle school and junior varsity division. In the freshman/sophomore division, both CBC and Ladue B qualified for nationals, with Ladue B finishing in first place. Bernard Middle School won its division, going undefeated. Oakville Middle School A finished second and qualified for Nationals.
In the varsity playoffs, everything held to form as the top four seeds advanced. There were no upsets in the semifinals, either, as Ladue A and Clayton A maintained their undefeated records to advance to the final. Ladue took a 70-30 lead at the end of the first quarter and never relinquished it, winning each quarter. The final score was 350-220.
Thanks to Rodney Gerdes and Oakville High School for hosting. We hope that all of the qualified teams will join us in Arlington and Washington on April 27-28!
