Thanks to Brian Racz and Boardman High School for hosting our first Northeast Ohio Bee and Bowl on Saturday, November 19. After the five preliminary rounds of competition, we had six varsity and three junior varsity teams qualify for our National tournament in April. Congratulations to Olmsted Falls A, Warren G. Harding A, Solon A, Hawken, and Cloverleaf A/B for earning the right to represent the northeastern section of the Buckeye State in the nation’s capital.
In the playoffs, the six aforementioned schools were joined by Poland Seminary and Sebring McKinley in the quarterfinals, but everything held to seed. After semifinal wins by Olmsted Falls A and Warren G. Harding A, those two Ohio powerhouses fought an even first quarter of the final. The depth of Olmsted came through in the second quarter, shutting Harding out. After a quick third quarter, the individual brilliance of Harding came through to narrow the gap to 10 points before the defending Ohio champions answered the last two tossups to close out their victory.
Boardman was an ideal host for this competition, and we thank them again for their hospitality. We wish all the participants the best of luck in the 2011-2012 season in all competitions, and hope to see some of these teams in Columbus for the State Championships on February 4 at The Ohio State University!
