13 teams came to The Ohio State University for theĀ 2013 Ohio State History Bowl on March 2, 2013. 8 teams played for the varsity title while 5 contested the junior varsity title.
In the varsity division, the early national qualifiers to our national championships on April 27-28 in Arlington, VA and Washington, DC were St. Charles A and Fisher Catholic A. Both posted three wins before the break. In the afternoon rounds, Cloverleaf A and the unaffiliated “Spire of Dublin” joined the three-win club. All four of those qualifiers also advanced to the Bowl semifinals. The higher seeds, undefeated Fisher Catholic A and one-loss St. Charles A, advanced to the final. After playing to a 10-point margin in the last preliminary round, this match was just as close, with the lead changing hands seven times. The first quarter ended at 50-50. Good bonus conversion put Fisher ahead by 20 at the half. The third quarter was won by St. Charles by 30, giving them a 10 point lead heading into the last quarter, but Fisher Catholic hit a 30 and two 20s and held on for a 270-210 win.
In the junior varsity division, Fisher Catholic B dominated. Scoring as many as 400 points in a round, they were not challenged on their way to an undefeated preliminary record and a 360-50 final win over St. Charles C.
Many thanks to Jarret Greene and the Ohio State University Academic Team for securing the rooms for us to have this tournament on campus once again, and we hope to see all the qualified teams in April at Arlington and Washington!
