Congratulations to Solon High School for winning the Southwest Ohio History Bowl!
12 teams, including defending national JV Champions Northmont, came to Madeira High School on Saturday, December 15, 2012 to play the second annual Southwest Ohio History Bowl. Due to a lack of teams, there was no separate JV division, but Northmont’s JV team more than rose to the occasion, going 5-0 in their preliminary rounds along with Solon. Hosts Madeira and Dublin Scioto were the next best teams in the morning, finishing 4-1. Two of Tippecanoe’s teams went 3-2, qualifying for the National Championships, while Sidney and the Northmont Varsity squad rounded out the playoff line-up.
After the quarterfinals and semifinals, Solon and the Northmont JV team faced off in the final and, for their second consecutive NHBB tournament, Solon won the final by 50 points. This final was a closer affair than the Northeast Ohio final, though; Solon only led by 10 points after the 60-second round, but used good early buzzes in the first part of the fourth quarter to expand the lead quickly and eventually hold on for the tournament title.
Thanks to Barb Linser, Allison Evans, and the Madeira Academic Team for hosting, and we hope to see all the qualifiers at the National Championships in April!
