Western Kentucky

Congratulations to Glasgow High School for winning the 2013 Western Kentucky History Bowl!  Thanks to Owensboro Middle School for hosting, to Nick Conder for directing, to everyone who helped out throughout the day, and to all teams who came.

8 teams competed in this season’s Western Kentucky History Bowl. Daviess County swept through the preliminary rounds, while Glasgow had the most points. Those teams were joined by Menifee County and Henderson County in the semifinals. Henderson overturned a second round loss to Daviess in the first semifinal, while Glasgow defeated Menifee County on a tiebreaker to advance to the final, too.

In that final, Henderson County took a 60-40 first quarter lead, but Glasgow capitalized on bonus opportunities to take their own lead at halftime after outscoring Henderson in the second quarter 100-20. The second half was very closely fought; Henderson won each of the third and fourth quarters, but Glasgow held on to win the Bowl championship 270-240.

There were two junior varsity teams in the field — Owensboro B and Gallatin. Gallatin won both meetings between the teams, 250-200 and 260-210, to qualify for the National Championships.
