Washington – State Championships

The National History Bee and Bowl Washington State Championships took place at Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale, WA on Saturday, February 18, 2012. 12 varsity and 6 JV teams fought for the titles and Nationals places available. In the JV competition, Pope John Paul II ran the table to qualify for the playoffs as the #1 seed and won two playoff games to secure the title. Mercer Island finished as runners-up, losing to the champions 210-140 in the JV final.

In the Varsity competition, Charles Wright Academy scored very well in the preliminary rounds, while White River went undefeated. Thomas Jefferson A qualified for Nationals by winning their quarterfinal against White River, while Thomas Jefferson B went one better by beating their own A team to make the final. Charles Wright Academy won the state title, defeating Thomas Jefferson B 240-180 in a great match that was tied heading to the fourth quarter.

We hope to see all 10 of the qualified teams from 7 different schools at our National tournament on April 28!
