Dear NHBB & USGO Students, Coaches, and Teams,
Thank you so much for coming to the 2017 Southern Kentucky History Bee and Bowl! I’d like to thank Todd Garrison and Glasgow High School for hosting us, as well as all of our moderators and staff. The students (and I!) greatly appreciated your help and made Saturday a fantastic day of competition.

Congratulations to Merrol Hyde A and Dupont Manual for winning the Varsity and JV titles in the History Bowl, and to Jack Lewis of Battle Ground Academy and Jake Powell of Dupont Manual for their victories in the Varsity and JV History Bees! Merrol Hyde went undefeated in preliminary play and overcame Henderson County and Team Sir Negsalot to win, while Dupont Manual lapped the field twice in pool play to secure their JV title.

Note that any Bowl team with a .500 record or above in the prelims qualifies for Nationals, as do Bee competitors who finished in the top half of their Bee prelims.

The qualifying exam scores are also posted here; students who finished in the top half of their division automatically qualify for nationals. Further, students who did not automatically qualify will be notified in February if they qualify for nationals by scoring above the national median for the exam within their division.

We hope that you and your students enjoyed the competition; if you have any feedback on how things went or questions about the day, please let us know!

Don’t forget to register for the Tennessee State Championships at Westmoreland Middle on February 4th, the Eastern Kentucky History Bowl at Paintsville on February 11th, or the Kentucky State Championships, also at Paintsville, on March 18.  Both the Kentucky and Tennessee State Championships use the same questions, our A Set for this year, so you can select the tournament that’s more convenient for you. (Teams are welcome at neighboring states’ Championships.)

Finally, our 2017 National Championships will be held on April 21-23 in April in Arlington, VA and Washington, DC. Whether you were able to qualify this weekend, will qualify at a future tournament, or apply for a wildcard berth, I hope to see you there! Registration will open by the end of the calendar year; we’ll be in touch with reminders as the school year progresses.

Thank you again for a great tournament!
