Dear NHBB & USGO Students, Coaches, and Teams,

Thank you so much for coming to the 2017 Texas State Championships of the History Bee and Bowl! I’d like to thank UT-Austin for hosting us and Arthur Lee for directing, as well as all of our other moderators and staff. The students (and I!) greatly appreciated your help and made the day a fantastic day of competition.

Congratulations to Taylor and Colleyville for winning the Varsity and JV titles in the History Bowl, and to Andy Huff of St. Johns and William Golden of Taylor for their victories in the Varsity and JV History Bees! Taylor went undefeated in preliminary play and defeated St. Johns 290-210 in the final, while Colleyville defeated LASA C 240-200. Fantastic play from all!

Note that any Bowl team with a .500 record or above in the prelims qualifies for Nationals, as do Bee competitors who finished in the top half of their Bee prelims. These stats will be posted to our website shortly.

We hope that you and your students enjoyed the competition; if you have any feedback on how things went or questions about the day, please let us know!

Our 2017 National Championships will be held on April 21-23 in April in Arlington, VA and Washington, DC. Whether you were able to qualify at Texas, will qualify at a future tournament, or apply for a wildcard berth, I hope to see you there! Registration is open; we’ll be in touch with reminders as the school year progresses.

Thank you again for a great tournament!
