We had a small but competitive and successful Vermont History Bee and Bowl at Burlington High School. Five teams (three varsity, two JV) competed in the Bowl and 13 students participated in the Bee.
The Varsity Bowl was a tight battle between Essex A and Plymouth A, with Essex prevailing in a pair of head-to-head matchups that went down the last question. In the preliminary rounds Essex won 260-250, 20’ing the penultimate question before Plymouth buzzed in one word too late to get the 20 it needed to tie on the last question. In the final, Essex won 260-230, taking the lead with 20 on question 6 before #7 went dead and Essex clinched the title with 10 on the last question.
Plymouth B claimed the JV bowl title with a 210-140 victory over Essex B that gave Plymouth a 3-2 overall record for the day.
The Bees were also competitive, with Plymouth’s Sean Harris claiming the varsity title by edging Essex’s Alex He and Champlain Valley’s Peter Antinozzi coming from behind to beat Plymouth’s Rhys Harris in finals that both ended with 6-5 scores among the top two. Plymouth’s David Banister was the third varsity finalist while Essex’s Jihan Dahanayaka was third in the JV field.
