Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

The National History Bee and Bowl is looking forward to holding its annual Hudson Valley History Bee and Bowl Championships for the 2018-2019 academic year. This tournament will run on our A Set of questions, and will likely be held in the spring. As soon as the exact date and location are known, they will be posted here. This tournament, like all NHBB Varsity and Junior Varsity events, is open to all students, regardless of what state they are from, as long as they have not yet played this set of questions in the 2018-2019 academic year.

This tournament will also feature a Middle School Division in the History Bowl, if at least 4 Middle School teams register. During the Bee portion of the day, middle school students can decide to either compete in the JV Division of the National History Bee or compete in the Middle School International Geography Bee Regional Quiz Tournament (which functions like a History Bee, but with Geography-themed questions). The Geography Quiz Tournament is only open to students in 8th grade and younger; students in grade 6 and younger will play in a separate Elementary Division.

For further information, please email the Tournament Coordinator at the address listed below. Thanks, and we look forward to welcoming you and your team to the tournament later this year!

Note 1: During the lunch break, we will offer the A (Varsity and JV) and H (Middle School and Elementary School) Set Version of the National Qualifying Exams for the US Geography Olympiad / International Geography Bee (one exam serves to qualify students for the National Championships of both competitions) and the US History Bee. Both exams cost $10 and can be signed up for on the day of the tournament; pre-registration is not required. Students planning on taking one exam are recommended not to leave during the lunch break (they can bring a lunch or have a teammate get lunch for them). Students planning on taking both exams should definitely plan on staying at the school for lunch.
Middle School and Elementary School students can do both versions of the Geography exam if they wish, but in that case, they cannot also then take the US History Bee exam. They can take the US History Bee exam if they take no other exam or just 1 of the Geography Exam versions.

Note 2: The schedule as listed below is considered tentative until registration opens, and thereafter, may still be subject to slight changes based on turnout until registration closes, at which point it will be confirmed. Students and teams looking for further guidance on the schedule should contact the Tournament Coordinator.
