The National History Bee and Bowl is pleased to announce the 2020 Lorenz Cup *, which will take place at its usual time and location, namely, on the afternoon and evening of Thursday, April 23 at the beginning of our Varsity and JV National Championships weekend at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA.

The Lorenz Cup consists only of a History Bowl (there is no Bee or Exam component) and it is played on our A Set of questions. The Lorenz Cup is open to any players who have not played A Set this year; participation in other Nationals events is not required. If you are competing at Nationals, however, and have not played the A Set, this is a great opportunity to get some practice in before the main events at Nationals begin. Please register for the Lorenz Cup using the main regional and state tournament registration form. The costs are the same as for a normal regional or state tournament. However, unique to the Lorenz Cup, teams are not required to bring readers, and no buzzer discounts are granted.

Registration will run up until noon on the day of the tournament. Note that it is not possible to qualify for Nationals from the Lorenz Cup as the draw will have been set in the prior weeks. For further details, please contact
Thanks and we hope you can join us!

* = The Lorenz Cup is named in memory of Mr. Jack Lorenz, the principal at Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, NJ who ten years ago gave the green light for the pilot tournament of the National History Bee and Bowl (the 2010 Tri-State History Bee and Bowl) to take place. Without his support, NHBB may never have been born.
