International Academic Competitions, the parent organization for the National History Bee and Bowl, is the organizer of the International History Olympiad. The Olympiad debuted at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in July 2015 with 111 students from 16 countries. The 2016 Olympiad was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the 2018 Olympiad was held in Berlin. The next Olympiad will be held in Summer 2022 in Quebec City, Canada.

The Olympiad features numerous events, including over a dozen History Bee and Bowl tournaments, as well as other historically-themed competitive and non-competitive events. See the website at for a full program of events.

Students in the USA qualify by finishing in the top half at either the 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022 National Championships, by finishing in the top half of the History Bee National Championships in any of the 2018-2022 academic years, or on a team in the History Bowl in the National Championships in those academic years. Students can also qualify by competing on a History Bowl team that wins a regional or state tournament or by finishing in the top 25% at any History Bee regional tournament in their age division.
