International Academic Competitions, the parent organization for the National History Bee and Bowl, is the organizer of the International History Olympiad. The Olympiad debuted at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in July 2015 with 111 students from 16 countries. The 2016 Olympiad was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the 2018 Olympiad was held in Berlin. The next Olympiad will be held from July 19-26, 2020 on a Caribbean cruise.

The Olympiad features numerous events, including over a dozen History Bee and Bowl tournaments, as well as other historically-themed competitive and non-competitive events. See the website at for a full program of events.

Students can qualify for the Olympiad by finishing in the top half at the National Championships in either The National History Bee or The National History Bowl, or by winning a regional or state tournament in the History Bowl, or by finishing in the top 25% in any regional or state History Bee. Qualification is valid for two years, so students can qualify for the 2020 International History Olympiad at any NHBB tournament in the 2018-2019 or 2019-2020 academic years.
