Winter History Bee Leagues (updated 3/1/21)

International Academic Competitions is pleased to announce that this year’s Spring League offerings will include Bee Leagues in World History, US History and the International Geography Bee.

Registrations for the Spring Online Bee Leagues are open, and will close on March 31, 2021. If you have any questions please email league@iacompetitions.com.

Organization

For each Bee League, students will play in three preliminary rounds of 30 questions each. The highest scores will then advance to playoffs, consisting of semifinals and finals.

All matches will be played online using Google Meet and the COBA-cc online buzzer platform.

Students will be classified into Varsity (grades 11 and 12) and Junior Varsity (grades 10 and younger) divisions.

World History Bee

The World History Bee will begin play on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 and will end on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Registration will close on Wednesday, March 31st at 11:59pm Eastern Time.

Questions used will largely mirror those of a normal A Set Bee, but with less of a focus on US History. Preliminary matches will be played on Tuesday, April 13 from 7pm-10pm EST. Playoffs will begin Tuesday, April 20 at 7pm EST.

Nationals Qualification

The top 60% of students in each age division, according to prelim rank, will qualify for the National Championships of the National History Bee. The top 30% of students in each division, according to prelim rank, also qualify for the next International History Olympiad.

Awards

The finalists in each age division will receive medals shipped to them after the event concludes.

US History Bee

The US History Bee will begin play on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 and will end on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Registration will close on Wednesday, March 31st at 11:59pm Eastern Time.

Questions used will largely mirror those of a normal A Set Bee in terms of difficulty, but will exclusively focus on US History. Preliminary matches will be played on Wednesday, April 14 from 7pm-10pm EST. Playoffs will begin Wednesday, April 21 at 7pm EST.

Nationals Qualification

The top 60% of students in each age division, according to prelim rank, qualify for the National Championships of both the National History Bee AND the US History Bee. This qualification method for USHB Nationals is in addition to the US History Bee National Qualification Exam, which will still be offered.

Awards

The finalists in each age division will receive medals shipped to them after the event concludes.

International Geography Bee

The International Geography Bee will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Registration will close on Wednesday, March 31st at 11:59pm Eastern Time. Please note this is a one-day event, as opposed to the two-day events of the World and US History Bees. Preliminary rounds begin at 1:00pm EST, with playoffs starting at 5:00pm EST.

Please note that Middle/Elementary school students wishing to participate in the Regional Finals of the International Geography Bee must qualify through the ORQEs, and are ineligible to participate in the Spring League in the IGB. If you are unsure, please email info@iacompetitons.com before registering.

Also, please note that the World History Bee and US History Bee take place over two dates, while the International Geography Bee is a one-day event.

Nationals Qualification

The top 60% of students in each age division, according to prelim rank, qualify for the National Championships in the International Geography Bee only. If a student wishes to qualify for the US Geography Championships, they must take the USGC Nationals Qualifying Exam.

The finalists in each age division will receive medals shipped to them after the event concludes.

Cost

Bee League Registrations will cost $30 per student per event. Payments can be made in the form of a check or online with a credit card. Registration forms will be posted here:
