The National History Bee and Bowl is set to begin its seventh year of history quiz tournaments for students and teams across the USA, and we hope that you and your friends will be able to join us for our largest year ever! We’re planning just about 100 tournaments from October to April culminating in our 2017 National Championships at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA on April 21-23. As in past years, you can qualify at any regional tournament for Nationals, and with three sets of regional questions, that provides up to three chances for students to qualify. At all tournaments, students can also qualify for Nationals in the US History Bee and US Geography Olympiad by taking the National Qualifying Exams during the lunch break.
Please note that this website describes tournaments in the Varsity and Junior Varsity Divisions. Students in 8th grade and younger are welcome to compete in the Junior Varsity Division at any of the tournaments listed here, though the Junior Varsity Division also includes students in 9th and 10th grade. Students in 8th grade and younger are also eligible to compete in the Middle and Elementary School Divisions of the National History Bee and Bowl, please click here for further details on that.
In addition, please note that for the 2016-17 season, all registration fees in the Varsity and Junior Varsity Divisions of the National History Bee and Bowl, US History Bee, and US Geography Olympiad will remain the same from the 2015-16 academic year! Finally, note that any student who finishes in the top half of students at Nationals in the National History Bee or on a team in the National History Bowl, or any student on a winning Bowl team at a Regional or State tournament, or any student who wins a Regional or State History Bee will gain eligibility for the 2018 International History Olympiad which will be held in Berlin, Germany in July 2018!
